Obituary for Sandra Simmons
SIMMONS, Candullo “Sandy” Sandra, passed away suddenly on January 26, 2018 at the age of 76. Sandy was a generous, respected and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was the center of her family and ensured that everyone gathered together on a regular basis. She was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1941 to first generation Italian American parents Jean Chiodine and Carl Candullo, Sr. Sandy graduated with honors and received a full scholarship to college. Always a pragmatist, she began her career in banking administration and has been a business and professional leader in her chosen careers. Most recently Sandy served as President of the Mabel & Ellsworth Simmons Charitable Foundation, where she helped contribute to the lives of so many individuals, children and families in Hillsborough County. She was Vice President of both G&S Cattle Co. and MSGS, Inc., Manager for Simmons Farms & Ranch, and was on the Advisory Board of the Spurlino Family YMCA. Sandy loved to read, and immerse herself in creative crafts, puzzles and games. She loved complex projects like quilted and knitted blankets for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, photography and cross-country travel, which she did 6 times. Sandy made everyone feel welcome in her home, and was always happy to add to her extended family. She is survived by her husband, E. George Simmons, Jr.; her brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Sammie Candullo, Jr; her children and step-children and their spouses, Cheryl (Jeff) Redford, Michelle (Peter) Henry, Kelle (David) Frustaci, Richard (Denise) D'Alessandro, Michael D'Alessandro (George Marie), Christine (Allan) Hogan; her 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Courtney (Eric) Llewelyn, Derin (Warren) Garrison, Nicole Henry (Brad Smith), Michael Frustaci (Brittany Davis), Danielle Frustaci, Joey D'Alessandro, Zachary D'Alessandro, Brett Smith, Brittney Smith, Sophia Huber, Henri Huber, Emile D'Alessandro, Bo Hogan and Alanna Hogan; her 6 great-grandchildren, Cameron Llewelyn, Cayson Llewelyn Mason Smith, Nolan Smith, Gio Smith and Jordan Smith; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. A visitation will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at Southern Funeral Care, Riverview, 10510 Riverview, Dr., Riverview, FL. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 10 am this Friday, February 2, 2018 at First Ruskin Methodist Church, 105 4th AVE., NW, Ruskin, FL. At the conclusion of the service we will go in procession to the interment site at Ruskin Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, but in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mabel & Ellsworth Simmons Charitable Foundation. Please visit: SouthernFuneralCare.com
